LETTER HOME: October 23, 1970

This Private First Class, a radio/telephone operator with Company A, 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry, 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile), concentrates on a letter home as the company relaxes on an operation about 20 miles west-southwest of Hué. Two years earlier, in the Siege of Hué, the city had been virtually destroyed in one of the bloodiest and longest battles of the Vietnam War—one that would prove a turning point, for many, in their perception of the war.
