What Are The Edgars?

Glad you asked. We break down the basics behind the annual event that recognizes the best in all things mystery.

Awards season didn’t fly away with Birdman.

In fact, it’s only just begun for mystery-genre writers and fans alike. Every April, the Mystery Writers of America presents what has been dubbed the Oscars of the mystery writing world. Officially known as The Edgars, the event recognizes the finest works published the previous year.

Named after Poe himself, The Edgars feature categories that range from Best Novel and Best First Novel to Best Fact Crime and the Grand Master, and encompass past big-name winners like Michael Crichton, Lawrence Sanders, James Ellroy, and Ruth Rendell.

Intrigued? We have everything your tell-tale heart desires mapped out in a nifty infographic below. Give it a read, then flock to NYC with the genre’s legends come April 29. Tickets here.
